I’ve been trying something new lately as an opportunity for self-care and a new exciting endeavor: GOLF.

Stepping onto the golf course as a beginner, I’ve been drawing a lot of correlations to the feeling of launching a new business. There’s a ton of excitement, a bit of nerves, and the challenge of mastering something unfamiliar. Just like nurturing a startup, golf demands patience and persistence. Let’s be clear, you won’t hit a hole-in-one on day one (and maybe never), and that’s okay! It’s about celebrating your small wins – a solid swing, ball contact, a smoothly executed putt – and learning from every experience.

Just like in business, sometimes you need a coach to guide you and help you avoid developing bad habits. At MORTAR, we see entrepreneurs from all walks of life, each with their own unique gifts, challenges, and strengths. It’s easy to get caught up comparing yourself to others on the course, especially when you see people with more experience or resources – but that’s just a distraction! Focus on your own game, celebrate your progress, and remember, every successful business, like every great golfer, started with a first swing.

Embrace the journey, learn from each shot you take, and enjoy each moment for the opportunity it is!
