WALNUT HILLS, Ohio (WKRC) – Reviving and growing minority owned businesses is the goal of a new grant initiative. Monday, the first checks went out to dozens of businesses. Thirty-six small business owners received grants from the Lincoln and Gilbert Initiative. Each grant ranges from $2,500 to $15,000.

“Any opportunity we can get to leverage resources out there is a tremendous advantage for us,” said James Stock.

Stocks runs DJX Construction. He says the money will immediately help his general contracting business. “We are looking to expand with capital for equipment as well as hires,” said Stocks. That is the whole point of the fund: to grow and expand minority owned businesses.

“We need to hire at least one full-time employee, so I love that their mission is to help us double the number of full-time employees,” said Nahamani Yisrael.

With this grant, Yisrael can grow her digital media marketing agency, nahamani.org.

“That’s one of the fun things about the work that we do we don’t just help out one type of business we mainly focuses on businesses 1 to 9 employees,” said Yisrael.
