MORTAR Cincinnati was an amazing internship. This past semester was a great experience that was challenging, strengthening, and healing. MORTAR allowed me to learn a lot about myself and what I needed to work on. During my internship, I was challenged daily to change my perspective on marketing and what I can do to sharpen my skills. What I liked the most about my fall internship was planning the company’s Anniversary Market, understand building management, and assisting the Storytelling Department.

As the Operations Coordinator Intern, I did event planning, building management and graphic design. Also, I worked across multiple departments: Storytelling, Communications, Programming and Academy. For the position, I was to work across multiple departments and help in whatever they needed. I was beyond grateful for that because I was able to add job responsibilities that I wanted to take on, like having design time with MORTAR’s Design Manager. This was highly beneficial to me because I was able to learn marketing, building management, communications, and design skills. During my internship, my skills of teamwork, communication and technical skills were enhanced. And I gained organization as a transferable skill.

To be honest, I was nervous most of my internship because I wanted to be better. I have always been an overachiever and it was rough working with people that are talented, where I seem to mess up constantly. I genuinely just am an overachiever, but in the same vein, forgetful at times and not the most skilled in everything. I had to learn to view myself as part of the team, lean on my teammates, and not be afraid to ask for help. I am still learning this and even though my internship was rough, it was and still is, an honor to be at MORTAR. I know that I have a lot to learn, but to rate my experience out of ten, I would say 10 because MORTAR has been better than I could have asked. MORTAR has a family dynamic, they support their community, offer a healthy learning environment, and I’m challenged to grow a lot. I loved interning here and have been even more grateful to become a part of this team. I’ve dropped the intern title and am known officially as the Operations Coordinator.
