Why does the work that MORTAR is doing in communities matter?
In order for families to break cycles of poverty, they have to be given access to opportunities that create upward mobility.  MORTAR offers that access to those interested in entrepreneurship.

If you could only listen to one musician/artist/band for the rest of your life, who would that be? Why?
Marvin Gaye.  His voice, lyrics and musicality are timeless and he has music to fit any occasion… And his version of the national anthem… Look it up if you haven’t seen it.

If you could be the mayor of Cincinnati for a day, what’s one thing that you would change?
I would mandate that developers have at least 40% of all new housing in any area be affordable, income driven and with maximum income limits.

Share your thoughts on the idea of “building community through entrepreneurship.”
I think our society is trending towards simpler times of local companies run by people you know.  Our nation’s first entrepreneurs were folks giving their talents to their neighbors to make their community function on its own.  I think community is the foundation of entrepreneurship and it’s pretty dope to be responsible for getting to the money to make that happen for people who look like me.

Final thoughts?
It’s a pretty cool feeling when you land at the kind of organization folks tell you doesn’t exist.
